Newport News Shipbuilding christened its ninth Nimitz-class carrier, Ronald Reagan, on Sunday, March 4, 2001.

President George W. Bush and former Newport News Shipbuilding Chairman and CEO Bill Fricks look on as the ship’s sponsor, Mrs. Ronald Reagan breaks the traditional bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull and christens the ship in her husband’s name.
