Section 1: Keel Unit Complete

The Northrop Grumman Newport News Apprentice School completed the first section of the USS Monitor replica, the keel unit. Weighing approximately 18 tons and about the size of a rail car, the keel unit was transported to The Mariners' Museum on Feb. 26, 2005 for a keel-laying ceremony on Mar. 6 at 3 p.m.
