While it takes a great deal of skill to build
the world's most sophisticated nuclear-powered aircraft carrier,
it also takes the expertise of more than 5,000 sailors - including
the air wing - to operate it.

The crew of the George H. W. Bush is beginning to
form as the carrier continues to take shape in the shipyard.
The initial crew is called the pre-commissioning unit or PCU.
Establishing a PCU enables the crew to become familiar with
the ship and train on the new systems during the building
process rather than after delivery to the Navy.
The crew of the George H. W. Bush is led by the
carrier's prospective commanding officer, Capt.
Kevin O'Flaherty.
