In-Service Engineering
Planning and engineering for upgrade modifications and modernization is essential over a submarine's 30-year life. As the Design Agent and Planning Yard for the Los Angeles class and the Lead Design and Co-Planning Yard for the Seawolf class, we provide the planning and engineering support essential to the Navy's Attack Submarine Force.

Fleet Services
From design through construction, maintenance, and disposal, Northrop Grumman Newport News provides unmatched service and performance to Navy's submarine community.

Our mobile "Tiger Team" provides submarine modernization and repair services at the Naval Shipyards, fleet homeports and wherever the need is around the world. Since 1999, we have been the "center of excellence" and recently designated as the sole source provider of Retractable Bow Plane (RBP) restorations on LOS ANGELES-Class submarines. We have successfully completed over 10 RBP restorations and 15 High Data Rate Antenna installations. Also, Newport News is one of only two private shipyards authorized by NAVSEA to perform SUBSAFE work on submarines.

We continue to perform quality maintenance, modernization and repair services at our facility as well. Through 2005, we have successfully completed scheduled availabilities on the USS MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL (SSN 708) and USS HYMAN G. RICKOVER (SSN 709) with two availabilities scheduled to be complete in 2006 on the USS MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL (SSN 708) and the USS OKLAHOMA CITY (SSN 723). Whether scheduled or emergent, our fleet support organization is committed to providing quality services to the Submarine Fleet.
