The smell of hot dogs and hamburgers filled the
air at Pier 2 on Sept. 26, as more than 4,500
shipbuilders and sailors were treated to a steel
beach picnic on the flight deck of the USS George
Washington. As the sun set that evening,
the picnic continued inside the ship's hangar
for employees working second and third shifts.
The maintenance availability for the carrier is
nearing completion, and the picnic was the ship
command's way of thanking everyone who's made
it a success. Below are photographs and a video
of the festivities, which included food, music
and a George Washington impersonator. View
Video.

"This is something we wanted
to do to promote the great sense of teamwork that
Northrop Grumman and the ship's crew and all the

would facilitate that sense of cooperation."
