June 27, 1997, NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Steve Crandall has been appointed director of Material Logistics at Newport News Shipbuilding (NYSE: NNS). In this newly created position, Crandall is responsible for all physical distribution processes including shipping and receiving, warehousing, inventory management, material delivery and disposal of surplus material.

A retired United States Navy captain, he has held a number of major logistics commands in his career, most recently as deputy director for Logistics for the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. Crandall was also assigned as the commander of the Navy's logistics forces in the Middle East, supporting Navy logistics and ship repair operations in the region.

"Steve brings to the position - and to the company -- a strong track record of leadership and logistics experience," said Len Cooper, NNS vice president, Materials.

A native of Missouri, Crandall holds a bachelor's degree from Central Methodist College, and a master's degree from the Pennsylvania State University.
