Rebecca Stewart Appointed Director of Ship Repair for Newport News Shipbuilding

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., September 2, 1998 – Newport News Shipbuilding (NYSE: NNS) announces the appointment of Rebecca (Becky) Stewart to Director, Ship Repair. In this position, Stewart is responsible for the company’s Naval surface ship and commercial vessel repair activities from pre-contract through delivery.

Stewart reports directly to the company’s Executive Vice President Tom Schievelbein who said, "Becky has demonstrated good business management, fiscal responsibility and customer focus. I’m confident in her ability to successfully lead this portion of the company’s business."

Prior to being appointed to her present position, Stewart was Director, Life Cycle Engineering where she managed the logistics business unit of the company with 400 engineers and technicians. She joined the company in 1982 as a technical planner and has held positions to include Manager, Strategic Planning; Manager, Computer Administration and Control; and Manager, Systems Development Customer Service.

A graduate of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., Stewart also received a MBA from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
