CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE’S DESTINY
ARRIVES AT NEWPORT NEWS SHIPBUILDING
NEWPORT NEWS, Va., September 6, 2000 – One of
the world’s largest cruise ships, Destiny, arrived
at Newport News Shipbuilding (NYSE: NNS) on Tuesday,
September 5, 2000, for a ten-day period of work.

Owned and operated by Carnival Cruise Lines
based in Miami, Fla., Destiny will undergo work
to include survey of underwater equipment; underwater
hull blasting and coating; inspection of bow and stern
thrusters; maintenance on propulsion systems; and maintenance
of lifeboat and vents will be performed.
The 101,000-ton ship is 893 feet in length
and has a beam of 116 feet. This is the second dry docking
for Destiny at Newport News Shipbuilding, one of
a few U. S. shipyards with a dry dock large enough to
accommodate the vessel. Destiny has a guest capacity
of 2,642 people and travels to the eastern and western
Caribbean islands.

U.S. Navy and provides life-cycle services for ships in
