NEWPORT NEWS INDUSTRIAL, GOTAR TECHNOLOGIES SIGN EXCLUSIVE FIVE-YEAR AGREEMENT TO SERVICE NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS
License Enables Newport News to Serve as Prime Applicator of Gotar Products
QUEBEC (January 27, 2003) – Gotar Technologies, Inc., a manufacturer of biodegradable,
environmentally-friendly industrial cleaning products recently
approved by the U.S. Navy, has reached an exclusive, five-year
agreement with Newport News Industrial Corporation. The deal enables
Newport News Industrial to promote, market, sell and apply Gotar’s
chemicals to the nation’s 104 nuclear power plants. As part of the
agreement, Newport News Industrial, a subsidiary of
Northrop Grumman’s Newport News sector, will have access to the
company’s cleaning products in other markets, such as naval
maintenance.
“We entered into
this agreement with Gotar because it enables us to provide our
customers in the nuclear facilities industry with cleaning products
that are both effective and environmentally friendly,” said Mike
Marlow, marketing and product development manager for Newport News
Industrial. “Gotar’s products give us a clear advantage over our
competitors because we can meet our clients’ productivity demands
while protecting the environment.”
“The agreement we
reached with Newport News Industrial is extremely exciting and
reaffirms our belief that many larger corporations are becoming
increasingly interested in finding cleaning solutions that are
efficient, but also environmentally safe,” said Edward Gosselin,
president and CEO of Gotar.
Traditionally, the
nuclear facility maintenance industry has opted for aggressive
acid-based products or mechanical cleanings to keep their internal
systems flowing smoothly. In choosing Gotar, Newport News Industrial
cited Gotar’s products as being more effective than traditional acidic
cleaning agents, safe for employees, and beneficial to the longevity
of the equipment the products will be used on. Because of Gotar’s
unique cost-effective approach to maintenance, Newport News Industrial
will not be required to dismantle any systems to apply the solution.
All of Gotar’s products are manufactured in a liquid form for easy
application and removal but can also be easily reformulated into a
foam, gel or semi-gel for vertical surface applications. The products
are safer to handle than traditional acids and compared to mechanical
cleaning methods, require less labor and equipment down time.
“Gotar’s products will allow us to effectively handle a variety of
problems at nuclear power plants such as corrosion, oxidation,
carbonization and lime deposits in an environmentally friendly
manner,” Marlow said.
The license granted
to Newport News Industrial to serve as exclusive applicator also
includes the Northrop Grumman Newport News shipbuilding facility, as
well as Northrop Grumman Ship Systems Ingalls and Avondale Shipyards.
Newport News Industrial ranks among the
leading specialty service contractors in the United States. Over the
past 35 years, Newport News Industrial has provided services to more
than half of the country’s nuclear utilities and to scores of fossil
fuel and hydroelectric plants, refineries, chemical plants and paper
mills. Newport News Industrial is broadening its focus to include
maintenance and repair of turbines, pumps, heat exchangers, and
condensers as well as modifications and repair of major piping and
electrical systems. Newport News is currently supporting naval
overhauls by testing, repairing and refurbishing various ship
components.
