Northrop Grumman Receives Two Environmental Awards
From Hampton Roads Sanitation District

On May 7, the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) presented Northrop Grumman Newport News with two environmental awards for pretreatment excellence.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- May 16, 2003 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) Newport News sector has received a Platinum and a Gold Pretreatment Excellence Award from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD). The company was honored for its exemplary environmental compliance record and for demonstrating a commitment to environmental excellence.

The Platinum Award signifies five consecutive years of perfect compliance (1998-2002), and the Gold Award signifies a perfect compliance record for the year 2002. Northrop Grumman Newport News achieved perfect compliance by sampling and analyzing all industrial waste water at the facility and meeting the discharge limits mandated by the HRSD. The company also met all the technical and administrative requirements set forth by HRSD.

Northrop Grumman Newport News employees John Shephard, senior vice president, Operations; Jim Thornton, director, Environmental Health and Safety; and Jennifer Boykin, director, Facilities, accepted the awards on behalf of the sector at an awards luncheon held in Virginia Beach, Va., May 7.

"At Northrop Grumman Newport News, we believe we have a responsibility to be good stewards of the environment. These awards are the result of collaborative efforts of hundreds of people in the shipyard," said Shephard. "Our investment in pollution prevention measures, along with the ideas and daily work of our employees to protect the environment, have been beneficial to both our company and the Hampton Roads community."
