Northrop Grumman executive vice president and president of its Newport News sector Tom Schievelbein delivered the shipbuilder remarks during the USS Ronald Reagan commissioning ceremony on July 12. He told the crowd of about 20,000 that that the shipbuilders would watch with pride as the Reagan joins the Navy's fleet. "As the USS Ronald Reagan comes to life today," he said, "I can assure you that as shipbuilders, and as Americans, we will keep a watchful eye as she sails the world, serving as an instrument of diplomacy and peace. And if necessary, as we have so recently seen, as a mighty response to war."
