Northrop Grumman Receives Multiple-Award Contract for
Submarine Work
NEWPORT
NEWS, Va. - November 21, 2003 - Northrop Grumman Corporation
(NYSE: NOC) was awarded a multiple-award contract from the
U.S. Navy in support of submarine fleet maintenance work.
Northrop Grumman's Newport News sector is one of two prime
contractors for the award.
The
terms and conditions of this multiple-award contract allow
the Navy to assign or award future short-term and long-term
contracts to Northrop Grumman Newport News. It will also
provide a way to get work contracted more quickly than if
each job was contracted individually.
There
is not a specific monetary value associated with the contract
at this time, but it does guarantee Northrop Grumman Newport
News a minimum level of planning work. Potential work could
include jobs such as Interim Dry Docking, Docking Selected
Restricted Availabilities and Depot Modernization Periods.
"This
contract gives us the potential to expand our work in the
submarine fleet maintenance arena," said Becky Stewart,
vice president, Northrop Grumman Newport News Surface Ship
and Submarine Fleet Maintenance. "We look forward to
working with the Navy on future availabilities and becoming
another key resource for them."
Northrop
Grumman Newport News, headquartered in Newport News Va.,
is the nation’s sole designer, builder, and refueler of
nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of only two companies
capable of designing and building nuclear powered submarines.
Newport News also provides after-market services for a wide
array of naval and commercial vessels. The Newport News
sector employs about 18,000 people.
