NEWPORT
NEWS, Va. -- Jan. 20, 2004 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation
(NYSE: NOC) announces the following three executive
appointments in its Newport News sector: Becky Stewart,
currently vice president, Surface Ship and Submarine
Fleet Maintenance Program has been named head of the
Submarine Program; Irwin F. Edenzon, currently vice
president, Business and Technology Development, has
been named vice president, Technology Development and
Fleet Support; and John J. Mazach, currently executive
director, Business Development, has been promoted to
vice president, Business Development.
All
appointments are effective Feb. 1, 2004.
"Becky, Irwin and John bring invaluable experience
to these positions and their leadership will be instrumental
in helping shape the future of the Newport News sector,"
said Tom Schievelbein, Northrop Grumman corporate vice
president and president of the Newport News sector.
As vice president, Submarine Program, Becky Stewart
will be responsible for all new submarine construction
projects. Newport News is teamed to build the Virginia-class
of submarines and is currently doing work on the first
four ships in the class. Stewart began her career at
Newport News in 1982 as a technical planner and has
held a number of positions of increasing responsibility.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Christopher Newport
University and a master's degree in business administration
from the College of William and Mary.
As vice president, Technology Development and Fleet
Support, Irwin Edenzon will be responsible for all fleet
maintenance activities including ship repair for surface
ships, submarines and commercial vessels. Edenzon will
also be responsible for operations at Continental Maritime
in San Diego, the Herbert H. Bateman Virginia Advanced
Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center in Newport
News and engineering activities at the Northrop Grumman
Newport News engineering facility in Washington, D.C.
He joined Newport News in 1997 as director of Future
Carrier Programs. Before coming to Newport News, he
was vice president at Textron Marine and before that
was a director at Sperry Marine. Edenzon earned a bachelor’s
degree from Rutgers University and a master's degree
in business administration from Florida State University.
As vice president, Business Development, John Mazach
will oversee all business development, marketing and
customer-relations initiatives. A retired vice admiral,
Mazach was director, Navy and Marine Corps Programs
Business Development at Northrop Grumman Integrated
Systems before joining the Newport News sector in 2002.
He also served 32 years as an aviator in the U.S. Navy.
Mazach earned a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University
and is a graduate of numerous executive-level service
colleges.

of only two companies capable of designing and building
