Grumman Receives Two Environmental Awards for Exemplary
Performance
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – May. 11, 2004 – Northrop Grumman
Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Newport News sector has received
two Gold Environmental Excellence Awards from the Hampton
Roads Sanitation District (HRSD). The sector was honored
for its exemplary environmental compliance record and
for demonstrating a commitment to environmental excellence.
These
awards signify a perfect compliance record for 2003.
The shipyard achieved this by performing the monitoring
and reporting requirements of the permits and meeting
the discharge limits mandated by HRSD, as well as meeting
their technical and administrative requirements. The
sector has achieved six years of perfect compliance
for one permit and four years of perfect compliance
for the other.
“Protecting
the environment and preventing pollution is something
we take very seriously,” said Jim Thornton, director
of Environmental Health and Safety at Northrop Grumman
Newport News. “These awards are a tribute to the hundreds
of people in our shipyard whose efforts, ideas and daily
work benefit both our company and the Hampton Roads
community.”
