NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Feb. 25, 2005 – Northrop
Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has promoted David B.
McKercher to director of facilities and waterfront support
for its Newport News sector. He is responsible for all
shipyard facilities, plant engineering, plant maintenance,
crane engineering and waterfront support services. He
will report to John Shephard, Jr., senior vice president
of operations at Northrop Grumman Newport News.
“Dave’s extensive experience in plant operations will
help us continue to improve cost and efficiency across
the waterfront,” Shephard said. “He’ll also be responsible
for successfully executing the largest array of facility
upgrades that we’ve undertaken in the shipyard in many
years, including a new multi-purpose pier and CVN 21-related
investments.”
With more than 30 years of experience, McKercher most
recently served as trades manager for waterfront support
services, where he was responsible for more than 800
employees ranging from crane operators and riggers to
tool room specialists to docking pilots and dock masters.
Prior to that, he held several management positions
in maintenance and engineering, including manager of
plant engineering, supervisor of plant engineering and
superintendent of maintenance.
A resident of Smithfield, Va., McKercher earned a
bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Citadel
and is licensed as a professional engineer.
