NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – March 17, 2005 – Northrop Grumman
Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Newport News sector has promoted
Brian Welch to director of planning for the Virginia-class
submarine program. He is responsible for overseeing
the planning, scheduling and production control functions
for all new submarine construction. He will report to
Becky Stewart, vice president of the submarine program
at Northrop Grumman Newport News.
With 25 years of experience, Welch most recently served
as manager of submarine program planning. He began his
career with the shipyard as an electrician and has held
a number of progressively responsible positions in shipyard
operations, planning, production control and material
management.
“Brian’s considerable expertise and experience will
help us continue to strengthen performance, improve
cost and improve the agility of the construction process
for the submarine program,” said Stewart.
Welch earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
from Old Dominion University. He is also a graduate
of the Northrop Grumman Newport News Apprentice School
and the Thomas Nelson Community College industrial management
program. He resides in Hampton, Va. and is a member
of the National Engineering Honor Society and the Mechanical
Engineering Honor Society.
