NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – April 25, 2005 – Northrop
Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has received the Five
Star Recognition award from the Virginia Employer Support
of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The award was presented
to the company’s Newport News sector for its outstanding
support of the National Guard and Reserve.
The Virginia ESGR is sponsored by the U.S. Department
of Defense, and the Five Star Recognition is the highest-level
recognition presented to employers for providing Guard
and Reserve member employees with more support than
what is required by law.
The Newport News sector was recognized for its military
leave policy, which guarantees employment and benefits
for employees called to serve in the Guard and Reserve.
Additionally, employees called to active duty are paid
the difference between their military pay and their
normal earnings and they receive uninterrupted continuous
service for all time spent on active duty. Northrop
Grumman is the first company in Virginia to receive
the Five Star Recognition.
“Since 2001, we’ve had more than 100 employees
called to active duty,” said Bill Ermatinger,
vice president of Human Resources and Administration
for Northrop Grumman Newport News. “We are very
proud of the work they’re doing, and we will continue
to support them as they support our country through
their service.”
Northrop Grumman Corporation has been a large supporter
of their Guard and Reserve employees for many years.
The company provides salary differential, and offers
a continuation option of insurance benefits. Correspondence
by fellow employees to the mobilized member and a family
support system provide the peace of mind to the military
member while he/she is deployed. Northrop Grumman values
its Guard and Reserve, as well as retired military,
employees because of the vast experience they bring
to the company upon employment.
Northrop Grumman Newport News, headquartered in Newport
News, Va., is the nation's sole designer, builder and
refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one
of only two companies capable of designing and building
nuclear-powered submarines. Newport News also provides
after-market services for a wide array of naval and
commercial vessels. The Newport News sector employs
about 19,000 people.
