NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – April 28, 2005 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has promoted C. J. Ihrig to director of business development, submarines for its Newport News sector. He is responsible for working closely with the sector’s Washington D.C. office and the submarine program at Newport News to respond to the Navy’s requirements and ensure communication and information flow. He reports to John Mazach, vice president of business development at Northrop Grumman Newport News.

Ihrig joined the Newport News sector in 1998 and has held management positions in the Washington, D.C. office as submarine program marketing manager and manager of Navy liaison and business development for the submarine program.

Prior to joining Newport News, Ihrig worked in the Department of Energy’s nuclear weapons complex for Lockheed Martin Energy Systems. He also served 26 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring with the rank of captain. During his naval service, he commanded the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Portsmouth (SSN 707) and the submarine tender USS Canopus (AS 34). His shore assignments included staff positions for the Assistant Chief of Naval Operations for Undersea Warfare and for the Defense Liaison Division.

“C. J. brings seven years of dedicated support to the submarine programs at Newport News and he is an integral part of our team. His knowledge of and relationship with the Navy submarine customer is second to none and this promotion recognizes his hard work since joining the company,” said Mazach.

Ihrig graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and also earned his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. Additionally, he serves as the president of the Capitol Chapter of the Naval Submarine League.
