NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – June 24, 2005 – Northrop
Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC)
Newport News sector broke ground today on its new
Production and Maintenance Training Facility. This new facility will
be equipped with the latest technology and will serve
as the central location for all radiological, nuclear
and other skills training. Approximately 100 instructional
staff and 350 trainees from across the shipyard will
work in the facility upon its completion.
Representatives from the City of Newport News, the
U. S. Navy and Northrop Grumman Newport News participated
in the ceremony.
“This building
will be a monument, a monument to our community, our
customers and the production and maintenance employees
who make all this possible,” said Danny Hunley, vice
president of trades, education and training for Northrop
Grumman Newport News.
The 60,000 square-foot facility was designed by Clark
Nexsen and is being built by W. M. Jordan. It will
be located in downtown Newport
News at 46th and 47th streets between Washington and
Huntington Avenues. It should be completed by May 2006.

“This is going to offer us an opportunity and a platform to train like we never
have before,” said Rolf Bartschi, vice president and chief nuclear engineer of
waterfront nuclear engineering and test at Northrop Grumman Newport News. “It’s
going to help us improve the structure and capability of our workforce.”
