NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Sept. 28, 2006
– Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) donated
school supplies to benefit over 1,100 students and contributed
$300,000 to kick off the annual United Way Day of Caring.
The School Tools drive was held Aug. 14
through Aug. 25 at the company’s Newport News sector.
Collection boxes were placed inside designated buildings,
warehouses, piers, docks and trailers. Shipbuilders donated
items such as pens and pencils, glue, notebook paper,
notebooks, markers, crayons and many other “school
tools.”
“School Tools is a great opportunity
for us to give back to the community,” said Margaret
Blackwell, director of equal employment opportunity, diversity
and community relations at Northrop Grumman Newport News.
“Every year it becomes a bigger success thanks to
the generous support of our employees.”
The school supplies were delivered to 14
locations including Hampton, Newport News and York County
public schools and other organizations on the Hampton
Roads Peninsula, such as local departments of social services
and the Boys and Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula.
