NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Nov. 20, 2006 – Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Newport News sector has promoted Bob Granata to program director for the refueling and complex overhaul of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). Granata is responsible for overseeing the cost, schedule, planning and work performance for the ship’s one and only refueling in its 50-year life span. Planning for the project will take place over the next three years, with the carrier scheduled to arrive at the shipyard in 2009.

Granata reports to Ken Mahler, vice president of aircraft carrier overhaul programs at Northrop Grumman Newport News.

“Bob’s significant experience in ship operations and maintenance as well as his extensive involvement and leadership on the planning and execution efforts for the USS Nimitz and USS Carl Vinson refuelings and complex overhauls will be instrumental to successfully accomplishing our program goals for the USS Theodore Roosevelt,” Mahler said.

Prior to this appointment, Granata served as program manager for the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) refueling and complex overhaul program. He began his career at Newport News in 1998 as a propulsion plant construction supervisor, following 21 years of service in the U.S. Navy. His naval service included time as an officer on the USS Enterprise during the refueling and complex overhaul conducted in the early 1990s at Northrop Grumman Newport News, where he qualified as a nuclear engineering officer.

Granata earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of the State of New York and a master’s degree in management from the State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College. He is pursuing a doctorate in engineering management and is a member of the Project Management Institute. Granata lives in Chesapeake, Va.
