NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dec. 18, 2006
– Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC)
Newport News sector, the United Steelworkers (Local 8888),
the International Association of Fire Fighters (Local
I-45) and the International Union, Security, Police, Fire
Professionals of America (Local 451), joined together
for the sector’s 20th annual holiday food drive.
Shipbuilders donated close to 7000 pounds of non-perishable
food items and made monetary contributions totaling over
$2,500 to benefit the FoodBank of the Virginia Peninsula.
“This year’s food drive was
very successful because of the efforts of our employees,”
said Brenda Roth, community relations coordinator at Northrop
Grumman Newport News. “Our goal is to have continued
success each year, with the ability to help more people
than we helped the year before.”
The food drive was held Nov. 20 through
Dec. 8. Collection boxes were placed inside designated
buildings, warehouses, piers, docks and trailers. Monetary
donations were accepted for the purchase of perishable
food items such as meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables.
