SAN DIEGO – Sept. 5, 2007 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has received one of the U.S. government’s highest ratings for excellence in workplace health and safety.

Continental Maritime, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman’s Newport News sector, recently achieved the prestigious Merit status from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). A Merit site maintains employee safety and health programs that exceed minimum OSHA standards.

VPP is an OSHA program designed to promote effective worksite-based safety and health. It is a partnership between companies and OSHA to establish and improve safety and health programs. Acceptance into VPP is OSHA’s official recognition of outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health.

“Safety comes first for our employees,” said Irwin F. Edenzon, vice president of technology development and fleet support for Northrop Grumman Newport News. “The Merit rating recognizes the ongoing efforts of hundreds of employees to maintain a healthy and safe work environment.”
