Northrop Grumman Promotes Jim O’Brien to Director of Test Engineering
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – June 27, 2008 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has promoted Jim O’Brien to director of test engineering. He reports to Rolf Bartschi, chief nuclear engineer and vice president of waterfront nuclear engineering and test for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding-Newport News. Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, a newly-formed sector of Northrop Grumman Corporation, is made up of the former Northrop Grumman Ship Systems and Newport News shipbuilding sectors. O’Brien is responsible for planning and directing test engineering functions for submarine and aircraft carrier construction, repair and overhaul. His responsibilities include test program development and execution, and trial director during ship sea trials. “Jim is an asset to the test engineering team at Newport News,” said Bartschi. “His 24 years of experience and proven leadership skills will be valuable to the continuing success of our test engineering program.” O’Brien joined Newport News in 1984 as an engineer and has held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility including manager of electronics test, manager of submarine test engineering and manager of Virginia-class nuclear construction engineering. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in engineering management from Florida Tech. He currently resides in Newport News, Va.
