NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Aug. 25, 2008 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has promoted Chuck Jefferson to director of the advanced capabilities group for surface warfare. He reports to Pete Diakun, vice president of platform integration and technology development for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding.

Jefferson is responsible for surface combatant ship capture programs for the company’s Shipbuilding sector, including early concept development and studies. He will also be responsible for focusing on the Navy’s next generation cruiser (CGX) while continuing to oversee the aircraft carrier warfare systems programs, providing support to all carrier programs.

“Chuck brings nearly 30 years of unique warfare experience from his time in the Navy, shipbuilding industry and shipyard assignments,” said Diakun. “He is a strong and valuable asset to the surface warfare program.”

Jefferson joined Newport News eight years ago as manager of the George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) warfare systems design. His responsibilities have expanded to include supporting the Gerald R. Ford-class and overhaul and in-service aircraft carrier programs. He also supports the corporate Naval Systems Integration Group (NSIG) and is a liaison to NAVSEA.

Jefferson earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Columbia College and a master degree in business administration from the University of Redlands.
