OUR PEOPLE
The Submarine Programs at Northrop Grumman Newport News encompass
more than 5,000 people in a range of disciplines, from expert craftsmen
to accountants to planners to engineers and designers. The men and
women who design and build Virginia class submarines come
from across the country and represent dozens of educational institutions.
They perform technical research and development, provide ongoing
fleet support, and conduct short and long term advanced planning.
They are among the most diverse workforce in the defense industry
and some of them are fourth and fifth generation shipbuilders.

The Northrop
Grumman Newport News Apprentice School graduates more than 100
skilled craftsmen each year, many of whom contribute to the superior
submarine quality that reflects the company’s long tradition
of building good ships. Engineers and technical designers from many
of the country’s most prestigious programs combine their talents
to create the most sophisticated and advanced submarine fleet in
the world. These ships are ready to defend the United States well
into the 21st century. Business and construction professionals work
hand-in-hand to incorporate lessons learned and process efficiency
initiatives to meet or beat cost and schedule goals while maintaining
the highest standards of craftsmanship.
